Rutgers—New Brunswick was ranked the No. 41 best University in the world by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) for 2018-2019. They are currently ranked at No. 28 across the nation.

Beating out rival school Penn State by two spots, Rutgers jumped up from their place at No. 49 on the 2017 report, marking an eight-position improvement for the University.

The CWUR report is based on seven factors: quality of teaching, alumni employment, quality of faculty, research output, quality publications, influence, and citations. Research accounted for 70 percent of the total score in the 2018-19 report.

Notably, Rutgers ranked No. 35 in the world for quality of faculty, according to the report. CWUR considered how many award winning academics worked at a university for this category. The University also came in at 74 for research output, and 212 for quality of education. Their overall score was 85.2.
